PLAM Music Education
PLAM is a professional music academy founded by Dr. Jae Yong Na in London in 2017. Dr. Jae Yong Na completed a PhD in the UK and an MA in music education in Japan, as well as an MA in musicology in South Korea. Dr. Na is a scholar who has expertise in both Western and Eastern music education.
He has taught music applying meta-cognitive learning strategies based on the theories of renowned music educators such as Kodály Zoltán, Shinichi Suzuki, Susan Hallam, David J. Hargreaves and Yamamoto Humishige. His musical and academic background is a great asset to PLAM music learners. Meta-cognition helps one reflect on one’s thinking before, during, and after problem solving.
PLAM selects its music tutors through an in-depth screening process. Successful applicants must have both outstanding teaching skills and the ability to perform at a high musical level. Therefore, PLAM’s team is comprised of music tutors of the highest calibre who have extensive experience teaching from elementary level up to college level. In addition, PLAM’s tutors are accomplished and active performers recognized nationally and internationally.
PLAM’s mission is to provide the highest quality music education for all ages and abilities that will become the basis for a lifelong involvement with music. One of our goals is to ensure that students enjoy our musical activities during the learning process. We believe that educational outcomes are optimised when students enjoy what they are doing. The other goal is that we develop students’ musical ability and help them to reach their potential.
Therefore, we teach students to be a musician by fostering confidence and creativity through exceptional musical learning strategies based on the meta-cognitive learning strategy.
